Volunteers play an integral
role in the mission of Northern Virginia Family Service
to empower individuals and families to improve their
quality of life. Northern Virginia Family Service
volunteers are people of all ages and backgrounds
who share their interests, time, talents and commitment
to giving back to the community in which they live.
All volunteer opportunities are on weekdays during
business hours unless otherwise noted.

Office
Volunteer: Northern Virginia Family Service
is seeking a pleasant, organized volunteer for the
Front Office of our Oakton, Virginia headquarters.
Duties include: answering phones; greeting visitors;
receiving deliveries; processing mail; shredding;
fax and copier duties and other miscellaneous office
tasks as needed. Work times are flexible between 9:00
am and 5:00 pm weekdays. Requires fluent English,
basic phone and computer skills. Spanish would be
a plus. Minimum age 16 unless accompanied by an adult.

Clock
Tower Thrift Shops :
We are currently seeking energetic and enthusiastic
volunteers to help at our Clock Tower Thrift Shops
located in Falls Church and Centreville. Volunteers
are needed to sort, tag and organize donated items.
The Centreville store is especially in need of people
to sort toys. Ongoing need. Individuals and Groups
are welcome. Minimum Age is 16. This is an excellent
opportunity for teens who are required to complete
volunteer hours for community service, school, scouts
or religious activities. Also, great environment for
retired or senior citizens who want to help their
community and support a good cause. All proceeds from
Thrift Shop sales benefit over 35 programs that help
individuals and families throughout Northern Virginia.
Daytime, evening and weekend hours available.

Healthy
Families Advocate (Alexandria): Energetic individuals
who live in Alexandria are needed to assist with our
Healthy Families' Resource Development Committee.
Committee responsibilities include: program fundraising;
contacting private & corporate donors; planning
and implementing annual fundraising event; serving
as an advocate for the program with state and local
officials; providing outreach to the community. Must
have good communication skills and an interest in
family/parenting issues. Full Committee meets 6 times
a year for 1 ½ hours.

NVFS Special Foster and Therapeutic Respite
Care Program is looking for caring singles and couples to
give local families a bit of a break by providing occasional
respite care to kids with special needs. A typical stay is for
a weekend. Volunteers must be 21 or older, attend training,
and have a background check. If interested, please contact

Computer
Tutors Needed: Assist
students in NVFS Job Training Program. Duties include:
Tutoring individual students one or more times per
week for one to two hours. Ensure that students understand
concepts given in the lesson, using course textbook,
with a focus on specific assignments. Help students
keep up with the curriculum as needed. Qualifications:
Solid skills in MS Windows and/or Word, Excel and
PowerPoint. Excellent people skills; ability to instruct
students who are English language learners. Training:
Computer Trainer will provide initial information
session and orientation to Computer Tutor. Ongoing
training available if needed. Commitment: 6 month
term, average of 2-4 hours per week.

Teacher's
Assistant: The Arlington and Manassas Early
Head Start Programs are seeking volunteers to assist
teachers in the pre-school classroom. May involve
setting up play and learning activities, reading to
students, decorating the classroom, or helping with
breakfast and lunch. Must be comfortable with groups
of children ages 0-3 years. Requires experience with
children this age or a desire to gain such experience.

Money
Management for Seniors: The Arlington Money
Management Program is seeking volunteers to work with
low-income seniors providing basic money management.
Help clients write checks, balance checkbooks, organize
bills, arrange debt repayment plans with with creditors,
and make referrals for other services as needed. Requires
a college degree and interest in working with older
adults. Experience in financial counseling and Quicken
preferred. A background check and commitment of at
least 10 hours per month is required. Training will
be provided.
