NVFS
Assumes Services Previously Provided by CMHS
NVFS
assumed responsibility for the services previously
provided by the Center For Multicultural Human Services as of
April 1, 2008. The synergy between our programs will allow us
to find new and more efficient ways of reaching the multicultural
community in Northern Virginia. The services of CMHS included
housing and domestic violence programs, school-based enrichment
programs, mental health and an extensive volunteer program,
all with a unique expertise in serving the multicultural population
of our region. The services are vital to the Northern Virginia
community, and NVFS will work hard to ensure that the programs
are all represented within this new framework. NVFS hopes to
continue delivering these services to the community with as
little interruption as possible.

NVFS
Receives Prestigious Bank of America Grant
NVFS
proudly announces that it has received the "Neighborhood
Builder's Award" presented by Bank of America. NVFS was one of only two
non-profit organizations in the entire Washington, DC metro area to receive
this award, and was chosen as a result of its long track-record of successful
service to the community. "We are thrilled to have been honored by Bank of America
with this award," said NVFS President and CEO Mary Agee.

Bids Farewell to 9/11 Pentagon Survivors' Fund Program
"Thank
you for believing in me when I didn't believe in myself." "Thank
you for being there through hard times." "You gave me hope when
I had none." These are the words of 9/11/01 survivors who reached
out to NVFS in the final days of the Survivors' Fund Project.
These are the resounding words that hearten the staff and volunteers
who have dedicated 6½ years to the design, implementation, evolution,
and evaluation of this significant program. As of March 31,
2008, the Survivors' Fund Project has sunsetted, and what a
remarkable journey it has been. During this time NVFS partnered
with over one thousand September 11th survivors living in 35
states and abroad; forged relationships with over 25 sister
agencies and human service providers across the country; served
as a leader in the National Capital Region's long-term recovery
planning efforts; and established a case management model that
was flexible, scalable, and adaptable to a wide array of trauma
victims. It has been an honor to partner with the Community
Foundation for the National Capital Region, as well as the American
Red Cross and community partners nationwide to this unique community.
Healthy
Families Alexandria Hosts Event at MetroStage
Healthy
Families Alexandria (HFA) hosted "All Jazzed Up," an evening

students from St. Stephens and St. Agnes School. In addition,
the annual "Spirit of Synergy" award was given to Rodger Digilio,
Chair of the major donor committee, for his tireless efforts
on behalf of HFA over many years.
