NVFS Annual Event Combats Hunger in the Community at 2013 Empty Bowls

(Oakton, VA – Sept. 10, 2013) Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) will hold its 2013 Empty Bowls event to benefit SERVE, Friday, Oct. 11, 5 – 8 p.m., at Chapel Springs Assembly of God (formerly the Manassas Assembly of God), 11500 New Life Way, Bristow.

With one in seven American households struggling to put food on the table, more than 16 million American children face food insecurity every day. Empty Bowls, a heartwarming supper event, will help provide that next meal for local families. Attendees will select a handcrafted ceramic bowl and share in soup, bread and dessert.

Sponsorships are available, including in-kind donations of soup, bread, dessert and beverages, from local restaurants. Tickets and sponsorships can be purchased by going to www.nvfs.org/emptybowls.

Volunteers are needed to pick up and deliver donated food from local restaurants, assist with set up, greet and check-in attendees, monitor the dining room, and assist with clean up. Volunteers age 12 and up are welcome; youth under 16 must volunteer with a parent. Spaces are limited so sign up today!

Empty Bowls benefits SERVE, which operates the largest food distribution center in Northern Virginia. Last year, SERVE helped 2,742 households – a total of 8,986 individuals – with food assistance.
