Keeping Daily Operations Running Smoothly
Operations
Tom Krones is a volunteer in the Oakton office of NVFS. After retiring from careers with the federal government and as a private contractor, Tom felt it was time to add some structure to his retirement lifestyle and began looking for volunteer opportunities.
Tom became interested in volunteering for NVFS after reading an article in the newspaper about the annual Back to School Drive. “I was impressed with the initiative since it would make a clear and immediate difference to a large number of people in the community.” Tom said. He continued, “I felt that I could provide administrative support to the organization without much training, and the corporate office seemed like a natural fit.”
As a volunteer, Tom provides support to Human Resources, the Caravel Institute, Ways to Work and NVFS special events. Tom’s biggest project so far has been with Ways to Work, updating the program’s database and conducting and compiling data for a client survey.
Tom’s favorite aspect about volunteering with NVFS is the positive environment and “can do” attitude of staff. He states, “Clearly, NVFS makes a difference to the community; and I’m pleased to have the opportunity to make a small contribution to this effort. Also, while I’m a self-motivated individual, the fact that staff members are uniformly appreciative of what the volunteers do is gratifying,” says Tom.
Thank you, Tom, for all you do to keep the daily operations of the NVFS corporate office humming smoothly!
