$100,000 Awarded to NVFS for Best Practices in Housing Local Homeless
The Virginia Housing Trust Fund has awarded $100,000 to NVFS’ rapid re-housing program for its effectiveness, sustainability, and alignment with state policies. NVFS has decreased the length of stay at SERVE from 180 to 240 days in 2009 down to today’s average of 45 days. Shorter shelter stays lead to increased stability and self-sufficiency for clients as well as an overall reduction in costs. Learn more here.
The $100,000 award will support SERVE, where NVFS’ best practices in rapid re-housing were first implemented and have since earned Rapid Re-Housing Certification by the National Alliance to End Homelessness.

“I feel Vehicles for Change has tremendously assisted with our day-to-day operations with school daycare and work. Having a vehicle that is dependable and reliable helps me be more consistent on my job which led to a recent promotion. Also not just school and daycare for my children but they now can participate in extracurricular activities. I want to thank Vehicles for Change for having such a wonderful program to assist Northern Virginia families.”
