The Power of NVFS Volunteers: 2017 in Review
6,327 volunteers gave 79,492 hours of service
That much time is equivalent to 9 years or $2.3 million in value
Through the efforts of our volunteers and staff, we served 35,305 people
65% of whom live below the poverty line (an annual income of $24,600 for a family of four)
Families were fed and housed
2,800 volunteer helped prevent 99.5% of shelter families from returning to homelessness by volunteering an average of just 30 minutes each month
2,500 volunteers prepared and served more than 50,000 shelter meals
615 volunteers helped stock and distribute 1.9 million pounds of food
Children flourished
818 volunteers shared their compassion and skills with young children. As a result:
92% of Head Start students were ready for kindergarten
100% of families received health, parenting and financial education
1,800 students kicked off the school year with fully stocked backpacks, filled by 188 volunteers
Adults achieved success
By volunteering an average of 90 minutes each month, 178 volunteers helped Training Futures graduates increase their salary by 87% to an average of $16.60 per hour
