- 15 – U.S. Senator Tim Kaine held a roundtable discussion at NVFS Headquarters in Oakton on maternal health and racial disparities in maternal mortality. According to the Virginia Department of Health, the pregnancy-associated death rate for African-American women in Virginia was more than double that of white women between 2004 and 2013. Kaine was joined by health care providers, community leaders, and local organizations including NVFS’ Ondrea McIntyre-Hall and Nanci Pedulla, for a dynamic conversation where participants offered possible solutions and paths forward for policies at the federal level.
