general support
NVFS relies on funding to meet the needs of our community and our clients. General support supports NVFS’ ability to make an immediate impact by prioritizing the evolving needs of our clients and expanding programs to meet increased demand and ensure accessibility for our most disinvested neighbors. Some examples of how investments have allowed NVFS to deepen our impact include:
Examples:
Potomac Health Foundation
Multi-year General Support Grant
The Potomac Health Foundation awarded NVFS a multi-year general support grant to enable the agency to make strategic growth investments to bolster our impact. This funding has specifically supported efforts to advance NVFS’ EDI journey.
TD Charitable Foundation
2021 Housing for Everyone Grant Recipient
NVFS received a grant from the TD Charitable Foundation to help us provide personalized services for families living in NVFS’ Affordable Rental Units. This grant enabled us to hire a staff member whose exclusive focus is providing wraparound support for Affordable Rental Unit tenants, offering personalized assistance to advance their journey to self-sufficiency.
No Kid Hungry & Sentara Cares
Intake & Referral Position at the Hunger Resource Center
During the outset of the COVID pandemic, NVFS redeployed staff to the Hunger Resource Center to help clients with the multitude of compounding challenges they were now facing. The need for deeper support became clear and, as a result, NVFS sought funding to add a bilingual Intake & Referral Coordinator at the Hunger Resource Center. This position helps connect families to community resources both within NVFS and external partners that, beyond food, can address needs related to income/employment, housing, clothing, healthcare, transportation, childcare, and mental health services.
