Oakton, Va., July 21, 2006– Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) invites men in Loudoun County to participate in the Loudoun County Community Fatherhood Program (LCCFP). Beginning in August, sessions will allow fathers and father figures to learn about and discuss the joys and challenges of being a dad.
“The role a father plays in his children’s lives is an extremely crucial one. It is clear that children whose fathers are loving and involved have much better outcomes. That’s why we believe that initiatives like the Loudoun County Community Fatherhood Program are so important,” said NVFS President and CEO Mary Agee.
Using a nationally recognized curriculum called Fatherhood Development, fathers will learn:
- About parenting and education workshops
- Positive father-child interaction, focusing on the role and responsibility of fathers
- Child development, how to be a positive role model
- How to provide positive discipline
- Communication, managing anger, resolving conflict and negotiating relationships
This is a free, voluntary program where dads meet to share and learn tools of being a dad. Dads meet for two hours, twice a month every other Saturday for four months. Groups focus on specific ages: newborns/infant/toddlers, pre-school/school age, pre-teen/teens. Sessions are forming to begin on Aug. 26 in the Leesburg area.
