Healthy Families
Programs & services for new families
NVFS Healthy Families (HF), a nationally accredited program through Healthy Families America, empowers parents with the tools, education, guidance, and support that families need to build a successful and healthy life. We provide tailored supports to help parents achieve their personal and family goals, and promote healthy child development, positive parenting, and overall well-being.
We serve families in the City of Alexandria, Arlington County, Fairfax County and Falls Church, and the Greater Prince William area. Expectant families and families with children younger than 3 months old, regardless of income, are encouraged to apply.
Eligibility ▼
Parental Status: One must be an expectant parent or an individual(s) with a child younger than 3 months old.

Application Process ▼
A parent/expectant parent or referrer fills out the application. Families who are determined to be eligible based on their application, including residence location and parental status, will receive a call to schedule an initial visit. During the initial visit, a Family Resource Specialist will discuss your family’s strengths, goals, and needs. They will provide some initial resources tailored to your needs. If you are determined eligible for the program you will be assigned your permanent Family Support Specialist.
Participation is completely voluntary and a family can opt out at any time.
What to Expect in the HF Program ▼
Once enrolled an NVFS Family Support Specialist will visit you in your home on a regular basis, tailoring your experience, to support your unique family to meet your goals, develop positive relationships with your children, screen children to ensure they are meeting developmental milestones, and build upon your family’s strengths.
Services are provided from pregnancy until the child reaches 3 or 4, based on jurisdiction.
