OAKTON, VA—Sept 19, 2008— Local business leaders, volunteers and associates teamed up to raise funds for Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) at Stonewall Golf Club in Gainesville on Thursday. Over 100 golfers and two-dozen staff and volunteers joined together to raise over $35,000 for NVFS’ programs, which provide hope and opportunity to low-income families and vulnerable children throughout our region.
Ana Maria Garcia, a recent graduate of NVFS’ Training Futures career development program, told the crowd, “I thank you all for coming today because the Training Futures program changed my life. I was in a dead-end job, and now I am an HR assistant. I can support my family, and more importantly, I am leaving a legacy to my daughters, to show them that they can achieve their dreams.” Because of her new career, Garcia adds that she is now able to give her three daughters a regular schedule each day and health insurance for the family.
Each year, NVFS gives over 22,000 people the opportunity to move toward greater self-sufficiency. We provide help for families in crisis, so they can meet their immediate needs, and give them the tools they need to build a stronger future. With programs providing early childhood education, access to health care, housing, foster care, financial services and more, NVFS seeks to build stronger families and stronger communities by meeting the most pressing needs of those we serve.
